SCIENCE

The science program aims to collaborate with research entities by sharing information gathered in the field.

Whether in the field of biology or sociology, due to the number of hours of monitoring carried out by the volunteers, the actions of OPPAL arouse great interest. Our activities are addressed in various projects, creating strong synergies on the theme of cohabitation.

biology

A committee made up mainly of biologists

The majority of the OPPAL committee is made up of biologists. It is therefore important for us that our actions can serve to advance scientific knowledge. In just a few years, OPPAL has become one of the largest field structures, accumulating tens of thousands of hours of herd monitoring and interactions with large carnivores.

After each mission, our monitoring teams fill out a standardized report that allows us to build a database that can be analyzed by scientists.

sociology

Partnership with a team of sociologists from the HES Valais

We allow a gathering and a collaboration between several hundreds of people from different social and professional backgrounds. A team of sociologists from the HES Valais follows our volunteers as well as the farmers and shepherds with whom we have been working for several years. The research team is studying the social interactions between these different actors.
