Mathieu
Widmer

After completing my education in economics and management, I worked for several years in the mountain real estate industry before shifting my focus to the nonprofit and cultural sectors—an area that is more meaningful to me.
My connection to the mountains and nature extends beyond my professional career: I grew up in the Jura, in a farming community, then lived for a few years in the Valais region before settling at the foot of the Neuchâtel mountains. I have a deep interest in our regions, our mountains, and our forests, which I love to observe and sometimes capture in photographs.
My assets for OPPAL
Thanks to my diverse professional background and hands-on experience—including part of my civil service at OPPAL, followed by several volunteer shifts—I have an inside look at how the organization operates.
My interest in wildlife and rural communities gives me a better understanding of the specific challenges involved in each situation I encounter in the field. These combined experiences, along with my management and administrative skills, enable me to provide tangible value in my current role within the organization.
Why OPPAL?
What I like about OPPAL is that the organization provides tangible assistance to shepherds and livestock farmers in need, while also contributing to a societal debate that is close to my heart: the role of biodiversity in areas used by humans. These aspects come together in the organization’s mission and give my commitment its full meaning.
